    What is Homeopathy?

Most of us have heard the term homeopathy.

Homeopathy is defined as the use of plants, minerals, and animal substances,
    as well
as some chemicals, in a dilutive way,to stimulate the defensive systems of the
    body in
     a very gentle way.

It is widely used in Europe, but not as well known in the United States.
The theoretical and empirical basis of homeopathy is a concept of “like curing like” put
    forward by
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over200 years ago and described in the video
    quite
    eloquently by Dr. Tanya Rampersad.

The belief that "like cures like" (the science of dilutions) can be traced back to the father
    of medicine
     Hippocrates 2000 years ago.

For those of you not familiar with homeopathic medicine, you might be surprised to learn
    that it is
the second most widely used form of medicine for primary care in the world today.

Perhaps more than anything else, what distinguishes the practice of homeopathy from
    other
approaches to medicine is that instead of focusing on the specific causes of disease
    (such as
viruses and bacteria), homeopathy concentrates on the symptoms of a disease, as
they are experienced by the individual person.

As described above homeopathy is the idea that "like treats like" and is a form of
    natural medicine
that works with the body safely (rather than chemically against it)
     to produce results.

Most natural health medical professionals believe homeopathy to be a very effective
    method
of treatment with virtually no side effects. This may be particularly true when
    it comes to mental
health concerns such as ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

Let's look at one published example favoring the use of homeopathy to treat ADHD.

ADHD children were given either a homeopathic treatment or a placebo for ten days,
     then
parents and caretakers rated the children on the amount of ADHD behavior When evaluated in a follow up interview two months after the initial study had
concluded the statistical findings were as follows:

57% of the children showed improvement and continued to show improvement
    despite
the fact they were no longer taking the medication.
24% relapsed by the time of the follow-up.
19% continued to show positive results, but only while taking their ADHD
    homeopathic medications.

All things consideredthese are very encouraging results especially when
    taking into account stimulant medications
     for ADHD are ineffective approximately
    30% of the time
according to the publication "ADHD for Dummies".

One question people often ask when considering herbal and/or homeopathic
    remedies is
how long will it take for me to see results.
The truth of the matter is it is difficult to tell with much depending on the severity
    of the
condition being treated/managed and the of a person's physiological

    and psychological state going in.

Some people will notice an immediate improvement which only increases over time
    while
others will have to wait a couple of weeks, with regular use, to see results.

Herbal and homeopathic remedies taken orally may also provide a number of additional
    health
and wellness benefits not directly related to the condition being treated.
    For example
, a person might notice feeling more positive, having more energy,
    and getting sick less often
due to improved immune system function.

Note: Most homeopathic remedies can be safely used in combination with a wide range
    of
conventional medicines and in most cases (though not all) are a very safe treatment
    option.
Nevertheless, it is always a good idea to check with your medical professional first.
