Muscle Cramps

Child's FootDon't you hate it when you experience muscle cramps?

Here are a few ways to alleviate or eliminate muscle cramps.
  • Dietary supplements can help. Take something high in calcium and Vitamin D.
  • If you experience an attack, force your toes upward. This usually stretches the spasmed muscle and the attack should subside.
  • This works for some people. When you're lying in bed and your foot and the muscle in your calf begins to lock up, put your thumb and forefinger between your upper lip and squeeze for about half a minute. Sounds crazy, but give it a try.
  • A potassium deficiency can lead to muscle cramps. Eat products with high levels of potassium such as raisins, potatoes, orange juice and bananas.
  • Wearing dress pumps every day could lead to spasms of the foot. Try alternating with flats.
  • A small dose of table salt can work to stave off foot cramps.
  • Consult your doctor before trying any of the above.
